Besitzer: Gavin The Scotsman
VEHICLE IDENTITY
"It has been confirmed by Roberto Azzalin, that this bike, was of the
winning
CH Racing Rallye Team (era 1990/1991) and is referred to, as "De Petri's
Lucky Explorer No 91" and therefore, this letter will confirm this. In
addition, this letter is confirmation that the Lucky Explorer Proto No 91
was completely refurbished (Jan 2011) in the workshops of CH Racing and that
Roberto Azzalin personally oversaw the refurbishment work.
This bike is from the era of 1990/1991 and is totally complete with only the
"compass" removed. The "compass" was removed from the Proto No91 and
returned to Peugeot Rallye Team who developed and allowed the use of the
unit. The 1990/91 era bike had very special front forks, carburetors and
fuel pump, many of which were supplied by Honda. The front forks cost the
equivalent of 6000 €. the carburetors 3000 euros and a further 800 for
the fuel pump. The build specification (at the time 1990) cost the
equivalent of 100,000 € and to replicate today would require a budget of
150,000 €."
SPECIFICATION
"The De Petri No 91 bike is exactly the same specification, as the other
2
within the Lucky Explorer team, including the winning No 92 bike which is
currently in the Ducati Museum in Bologna. In fact, the riders used to swap
bike parts and use each others depending on circumstances during the race.
No92 is with Ducati (with my fathers permission) No93 is with the Azzalin
family and you will have No91.
The alloy front tanks each took over 40hrs to be shaped and fabricated at
the Cagiva factory whilst the rear tanks are made of Kevlar. Everything is
unique on these machines, even the screw thread on the fuel filler caps are
different from anything else available. These Rallye bikes were at their
peak from 1990-1993, each year the frame and the bodywork changed due to
on going racing development. The 1990/91 were the last rallye bikes to be
entered with RWU forks, after 1991 we moved to USD, which in turn dictated
more changes to the frame.
The engine a (batch of 8-10 were made for each racing year) is fitted with
unique sand cased crankcases fitted with Titanium connecting rods and
Magnesium cases the engine volume is approx 950 ccm and each engine has been
carefully rebuilt at the workshop of CH Racing prior to your collection, all
consumables have been changed."
